Natural Line Series

Photography: Digital, Color and Acrylic on Canvas.

Antelope Canyon is a series of natural slot canyons on the Navajo Indian Reservation and a true Northern Arizona treasure. Hiking within the canyon walls is an experience like no other; and while on a smaller geological scale than its sibling natural wonder, the Grand Canyon, its configuration is far more intimate and tangible.

For me, the sunlight beaming on the formations sweeping lines and contoured walls made me feel that at any moment I might spot veins of gold running through the surface of the different sediments furrows. I found myself increasingly gravitating towards abstract views and focusing on closer body segments of the formations lineation. Inevitably favoring depth and the uninterrupted strokes over the comprehensive build of the landscapes figure.

These works bring to life the painted gold exterior I imagined while experiencing the astonishing natural architecture Antelope Canyon has to offer.
